Description
Otto Frank was raised in a wealthy German household that was a model of European Jewry, and in World War I he proudly fought for his country as an officer in the trenches of the Somme. Lee covers these early years and those spent with his wife and daughters in Amsterdam before the onset of World War II. Then came their period in hiding, their eventual betrayal and their internment in the death camps of Poland and Germany. Never-before-documented information is brought to light about Frank and the individual who claimed responsibility for the betrayal, a complicated relationship that continued until Frank’s death. His experiences during and after Auschwitz – and his return to Amsterdam wholly destitute -- are fully related. The discovery of his daughter Anne’s diary and its publication helped Frank regain the dignity and strength to live his life.
